Awesome snow cover!

EoinArmstrong

That's excellent surfacing - I really need to start playing with intersections etc.

Tangled-Universe

Very nice looking snow. I'd rather call it icy snow since it's not looking like just fallen fresh snow.

There are a couple of ways of achieving this effect. Using one of the 3 intersect underlying methods or just use an offset for displacement in the snow surface layer. I think you have used the latter, but I'm not entirely sure.
Which way did you do it?

Fantastic snow. I like the falloff. I would really love to see this sparkling reflection on the snow. Do you know what I mean? Like this:

(OH GOD, what a link!!! :o)

...but I don't know how to achieve this naturally in TG.
The ground texture is a bit too dark for my taste. I'd really love to see some improved version!

That's not easy to achieve, I tried it here:

Hey TU, that's pretty close!

Dune

I've done this sparkling with an only white (contrast 2-5) extra PF with tiny scales, color slider to -1.5 or so (with or without a reflective shader), and an extra blendshader. It kinda works.

I try to publish the data and today this snow

The principle is a very easy thing.

I like this, very nice snow. I agree about the sparkling effect...

Of course, now we can use fractals as specular functions. :) Tiny little fractals...

That's pretty rough but it's an idea.

Dune

This is a (bad) example of my shiny snow crystals. As described earlier.

Tangled-Universe

Thanks A4 for posting the tgd

@ Dune & DandelO:

The nasty thing about TG's specularity is that it is virtually impossible to get evenly bright sparkles all over the place instead of only "below" the sun.
Maybe you can force this effect using specular functions, but I haven't dug into it yet. At the time I developed my snowshader I didn't have this functionality.
Seems worth a try :)

Dune

Perhaps with some extra suns, that shine no light except specularity...

Ghehe, very logical suggestion and I tried that too, but that functionality is really crappy in TG.
When I added a "specular only" light it still brightened up my images like a normal light would do with all the bells and whistles.
I forgot about it that I should report this to Matt.
