You probably have realized that the displacements on the blown up top of the moutains is grossly broken. I have looked at your setup, and although I would arrange the displacements earlier in the chain, I too can't get this to work properly.
It's funny: if you use the same displacement technique on an inverted crater shader you won't have these problems. If you apply these displacements to the terrain instead, like you did, things will start to break.

You should probably post this render and file again in the support section.

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks for letting me know Frank, and for your recommendation.
My knowledge of the node network and the why's and wherefore's is practically nil (duh!).
I knew the displacements were off the charts and probably not done correctly, but I thought the result was cool, so I posted it.
I was more than reluctant to post the file because of my ignorance.
Will move this to the support section ASAP.

The image and file have been re-posted to Support and Development   http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=8508.0
My apologies to those of you who downloaded my Wild Shroom file, only to find it not working properly.

I like that! :D

I still think that grossly broken, or not, this is a very nice scene. Don't feel embarrassed, most of my TG things are grossly broken and far beyond. You should nurture these breaks and just try to un-fracture them a bit, is all. It doesn't need to be physically correct to look nice. :)

It is quite repairable I think. Matt's suggestions will do it. Also changing the node places where the displacements occur can help.

Linda, your post made me smile :)
Your scene is just fine, the render is pretty cool! It's just that there's something wrong with TG2 in this particular aspect, hence my recommendation to post it again in the support section.

If you try the same displacement on an inverted crater (try it!), then you can have a perfectly shaped shroom, without any broken parts. I would assume this should work with the terrain as well, but for some reason that is beyond me, it does not :)

Cheers and keep up the good work,
Frank

@dandelO:  Thanks for making me feel better.  :)

@Frank:  Thanks  :) and I will try the displacement on an inverted crater, as soon as the render in the oven finishes.

Appreciate your kindness, guys!

OMG!! YOU HAVE YOUR COMPUTER IN THE OVEN?! IT'S GONNA OVERHEAT!!!!! Lol. ;D
They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?

dlefik2008

hey linda. nice scene. i think this would look nice with a variety of different trees, and maybe more shrub varieties, if you can find more. i'm still pretty new to terragen, but i've spent some time trying to learn fractal displacements, and have to say, very powerful stuff, with some good patience tho lol. definitely a good start though.  ;)

Hi dlefik, and thank you for your encouraging words and the great suggestion.   :)
