...to think about a title etc.
I have a dinnerdate with my gf so I gotta hurry :)
Just wanted you to share my latest work on a rocksurface.
The strange two edges at the bottom are because of strata-shader slope-restrictions. I'll see if I can work around it, but it's unlikely, otherwise I'll lose the nice structures.

More info later...

Cheers,
Martin

Seth

very nice rock structure Martin ! the strata doesn't look bad , it adds some more choatic look

Tangled-Universe

Thanks Franck :)
They are not strata, they are artefacts because of the slope restriction of the strata.
They indeed look chaotic though, but are definitely not there for my reason.

Seth

oooh I understand now !!!
they look good to me though. I like to use artefacts in my renders sometimes ;)

Gannaingh

Nice surface! Personally I don't mind the artifacts too much, it is not that uncommon for me to see features like that around where I live. Good work!

Henry Blewer

I can't wait for you to get rid of the artifacts. Your GF can wait. :o ???
Not really. I do not see the artifacts. It looks quite natural to me. But when you have figured out what you have in mind, I will probably notice the difference right away. This is very good.

Forget Tuesday; It's just Monday spelled with a T

Martin, very interesting, especially the flaky parts, although I would find them more believable if they would not have these round edges.

Good start - the lighting is nice 'n' subtle here - let's see how it progresses :)

Tangled-Universe

Thank you all so far. This isn't finished yet. There are a couple of things I'd like to add and a change here and there, but not that much.

You mean you would like to see the edges of the displacements to be more sharp?
I can't point you directly to examples/references where I have based this idea on, since I do pretty much everything from my head.
I know these type of flaky structures look very closely like this, but you might be right that it looks better/more realistic.

Cheers,
Martin

domdib

Very nice and canyonesque.

OK, So maybe you need to post a photo of the GF so we can why you don't mind to post the Artifact  ;D
Really though I like the upper layers very well!!!
