Been practising using TG2 and doing and testing different things and finally got done something else than just test renders of various things. This is supposed to be spring view from mountainous region where snow has mostly melt, but vegetation growth hasn't yet began.

Edit: Forgot to mention objects I used here: MGebhart's winter tree 1 & 2, Dry weed (don't remember where I got that) and Xfrog's free grand fir

very nice displacements, and I like the detailing here...well done!

Agree about the displacements - are you working with a DEM here, or is this a fractal terrain?

The ground cover is nicely drab and well constrained.

The fake stones are very nice. The darkness of the lower left part of the picture could do with brightening - either through altering the sun angle/heading you have, or adding a second sun (a typical trick) with a much reduced brightness and no visible disk or shadows. Another alternative is to add another Environmental Light, with Ambient Occlusion - it's not a technique I've really worked with myself, but others could advise you.

Keep at the testing - it's how we all learn!

Mor

Thanks for commets. The terrain is just a random generated heightfield plus default heightfield erode added. I agree with the lighting and only thing I did for it so far was change sun heading.

You have been paying attention in class. Very nice work. I would use ambient occlusion and increase the camera exposure just a little. I prefer darker renders. That's a matter of taste.

Ok, here's new render with some little changes. Ambient occlusion used in this one and camera exposure raised just a little. I also removed small displacements from the stone coloring.

Henry Blewer

That's got it.  8) There is always more that can be done with a particular project. I would call this one finished for now. I learn better and more by doing more projects, repeating the techniques I learned. I also try new things. In a month or so, come back to this one. I guarantee that you'll find things to change.

Definitely an improvement (I hope you think so too!).

Mor

Yes, I'm happy for the outcome and will let it rest for now. Time to head for new adventures  8)

MGebhart

Well done. I like this image a lot.
