A friend of mine on Flickr challenged me to do a massif similar to a real photo linked from the forum. This is what I have so far. I used one of Walli's dry shrubs from the dry bush pack available at NWDA. The pines are two of Marc Gebhart's generic pines.
The plant objects are too large. So are the clouds. I want to add some voronoi noises to the cliff faces also.

Henry,

Man, this is wonderful. Keep tweaking this one.

Marc

Note: I will be spending some time updating the free trees I made so they will be nicer. Higher res maps and some displacement.

Awesome mountain work and I like the tree distribution.  Lovely clouds, as well.  Nice!

Looking very good Henry. I'd like to see you catch this area with another point of view.

very good start, Henry, keep going at this some more.

I added some voronoi noise to the terrain and the shaders. It is not that apparent, but it's there. I also re-seeded the height field. Still tweaking...

beautiful.

You add of strate a mountain ??

OMG -- looking real good.  I like the contrast between the rough cliffs and the almost park like peace in the valley.

Very nice work here Henry :)
You might wanna try a bit more translucency for the needles or increase the diffuse color of the texture for the needles, since they're quite dark.
I like the POV, rock wall and clouds. A nicely composed image, good work!

Martin
