translucency

Hi all
I have a problem with the translucency of objects (the leaves of plants)
I simply do not know what and how to set the default shader.
I tried various factors of translucency, translucency images ... with no effect.
what's the trick?

thanks

You don't necessarily need image maps to control translucency, though it might be very useful for close-up shots to get subtle differences in nerves of the leaves etc.

Anyhow, it works as follows:

Default is 0, no translucency
Value of 1 is 100% transmittance of light from the other "side" of the leaf which faces away from the camera.
Obviously this is too much, so for nice translucency I often work in ranges of 0.4-0.8.

If you want to use translucency to brighten up your leafs then you can better first increase the diffuse color of your texture.
The diffuse color is set to 0.5 by default. This means that your loaded .bmp, .tiff or whatever filetype is not being adjusted.
However, if you increase the value from 0.5 to >0.5 you can brighten your texture, without having to do that in photoshop or the like.
Very useful I think.

I hope this makes some sense.
If this doesn't help can you post an image of what and how you are doing it?

Cheers,
Martin

Martin, here is my test tree "BL02_Betula_lenta_Sweet_Birch". Its from a well-known Xfrog free pack.
I tried to set the transparency to 0 and then to 0.95 ... and I see no difference.
I mean - with the translucency 0.95 - leaf should be almost invisible and we should clearly see the ground behind

You may be mixing up translucency with transparency. A translucent object transmits a certain amount of light through, but remains nearly opaque. But to be honest, I have not had much luck with transparent or translucent objects in T2. I can not see the difference in the translucency either. I have a new Dell 2310 widescreen monitor which I bought for better color and contrast levels. It has made a huge difference for me.

Forget Tuesday; It's just Monday spelled with a T

aha
It looks more like a language problem translucency vs. transparency:)
My leaves look kind of "hard" and unnatural. So the solution is likely about tuning lights and soft shadows.
Anyway thank you, masters

Well, I am more novice than Master. :)

Try to bring the leaves in such a position that the Sun is behind them.
If there is not another problem you should see the difference quite more .
In other positions it is sometimes hard to see. But it is there .

results of translucency
this is sun behind leaves position, as mentioned by Kadri

Interesting , Phiex .

I may be wrong but it looks like the translucency is more like luminosity and not like true translucency .
Do anyone have any knowledge about this ?
Are there any other Light objects Phiex ? The shadow on the far leaf looks like there is one .

Edit : Are all of the leafs separated , or all of them one texture (one polygon) ?

I saved a copy of the test image you did. It is a very nice reference. It's the first time I was able to notice the difference; this could be because I bought a new monitor...

Kadri, there is only one light source - Sun
All leafs are part of one texture. In other words, only one object. Darker area in the bottom right is the place where are the two of objects over themselves.

Matt knows it better , but then there is not a problem with translucency  :)

Thanks , Phiex .
