Problems when rendering

Hi

I keep getting a error message when rendering and it crashes at about 80%. The render is very big, but it feels like my computer should be able to handle it though. Any one knows what the problem might be?

Render settings:
You can see them in this image

Pretty sure that will be a memory issue - as in running out of it.  Those are quite high settings for any computer currently.

You can try reducing the subdiv cache (minimum is 50mb per core rendering), which might help but you will also see an increase in time taken to render. But even then it is quite likely you will run out of memory unless you were right on the borderline of memory use.

Terragen is still a 32bit application so it can't take advantage of beyond the 32bit limits (though it is Large address aware, so it can access up to 3 gigs).

There will be a 64bit version released sometime soon hopefully which should help those of us with machines with more RAM use it and cause less crashes due to memory.

Most certainly memory related issues.  First thing I noticed was the AA of 10.  That really isn't needed for this scene since you don't have any objects at all.  Try changing that to around 4-5.  Also you have a lot of black empty space, simply crop that out and then re-add it in post, that will get your overall dimensions down somewhat.  If you made it to 80% changing these two things should get you the rest of the way.  If not, then split the image into two crops and that should work fine as well.

Good to know its not my computer then:) i will do a render later with lower AA and see if it helps.

And btw, thanks!

Try an AA setting of 6 in a smaller render, 640 x 400. It should not take too long. I have found that an AA of 6 is often quite good. It depends on how close to the camera an object is.

Well, you were right guys, i did a new render yesterday with AA 5 without any error-message. But, if the render would be 1920x1080, would i then be able to use AA of about 10?

Anyway, here is the full render.

The AA refers to anti-aliasing. This removes 'jagged' edges from computer graphics. I have never used a higher setting than an AA of 8 using the current build. The AA does not really effect the screen/render resolution. It does help improve the image quality, but there is not much to be gained except a longer render time.
I hope this helps.
