One of the crucially important things about haze is that it's tied to the scale you are working at. Some people say the default is too hazy but how close are you to what you are seeing?

It's best to work at real world scales in TG2. I don't know if people actually do this. I haven't seen it discussed.

One tendancy is to keep upping the scale of things. I'm getting into the habit of doing the opposite now. Being aware that if I want to be able to see for example sand then I need to be very close otherwise it's rocks not sand.

Another point about haze and atmosphere. Check out the glow settings. I think the atmosphere (or at least the default) glows too much for many environments. Try turning this down.
