Selecting hiding items in the viewport

I may be being stoopid and missing something obvious, but is there a way to hide specific wireframes in the viewport other than disabling them? I am finding very difficult to select say an sss when there are multiple sss's in the same area.

You can untick show b-box in preview checkbox (just under enable checkbox) Untick sharp edges too(outline of the shape)
Never a stoopid question around here and I do not know why three question marks makes an emoticon...but I have done that too.

The easiest for me is to right click in the preview windows and select there from the menu.
