Wanted to create a darker feeling environment.
The scene felt empty so I took inspiration from a recent (as of posting) TerraTuts tutorial to add an old tower modeled in Blender and textured in Substance Painter to the scene.
Was also a very interesting test for creating rivers within the terrain shaders.
All pathtraced as the default renderer made stuff too dark.

Also, more than one foliage mesh used this time xd.

Doug

the first one is cool, dark and mysterious, but

the second one is way better

Hannes

I like them both, but I agree that the second one is even more interesting. Great work!!

thanks,
the first one is actually suppsoed to be the second one haha. I did it after looking around and I thought that the lighting looked cool at that angle.

Great scenes. I actually like the first one better, because of the coulisse-effect with the mist. A bit of grain in the mist here and there, which can be taken out with either a slightly higher cloud quality, AA or setting the pixel noise threshold a little lower in 'edit sampling'. With AA=6, I tend to set sampling to 0.03. Cloud quality as 1.

Both are very good, the second (first?) with the hint of a river at the bottom is really nice.  The first image is a bit more 'artistic', but both show your progress with TG.  How do you compare/contrast TG with the other renderers you are using?  :)

interesting, i'll see about these settings in my next project. I don't tend to mess with the sampling threshold bc i've had issues with chunks of the render being at different sample rates than others ina  very noticable rate (like a whole block of the image will look like it was rendered with 2x less samples than the rest)

Thanks!

I find TG to be a pretty cool renderer with a lot of great capabilities, especially with large scale and atmospherics (those sweet clouds are sweet).
However, I do find it quite clunky to use with some small but frustrating limitations from its general slowness to having to import objects separately for populations. And the lack of dark mode hurts my eyes. But the images out of TG look great so I'm willing to keep rendering with it for learning and fun (not sure if I'll ever get to creating complex terrain geometry with it tho), and it's definitely much easier to use now than when I first started.
