My first image - The Dead Planet....I knoiw it's not much but I hope to improve over the coming weeks!!
Every problem is an opportunity, but there are so many opportunities it is a problem!

not bad for a first images, welcome to the forums if you got any questions don't hesitate to ask.
The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

Thanks Will - I appreciate your encouragement!

Feel free to keep plugging away and asking questions, like Will said.  Welcome to the Planetside forums!
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Thanks - I have a lot to learn - I am at the stage of adding / positioning Heightfields to start to build terrain. My big question is how to get the sort of variety of colours across a landscape that it appears is possible. Does one use the colour function only or load pre-built shaders to give the effect of variance in say rock colour / grass colour (well grass is not one colour but many shades of green!).

surface shaders are usually the best way. At least in my opinion.

Not a bad image for a first, you should have seen mine!  :D

Power fractal shaders are the future! I've seen it in my dreams! You can do anything with them, from creating lovely terrains to surface mapping, even building fully functional communities who you can train(with a little coaxing from a fake stone or two) to fetch your newspaper or cigarettes while you play with TG2. ;)
You'll find that this place is a veritable rabbit hole of information that you'll spend hour, upon hour, just reading and learning new things. There are loads of threads in the forums about surfacing and terrain creation etc. Just take a couple of hours (with some coffee) and devour these pages, you'll find more than enough help to satisfy your needs, I'm sure.

Firstly though, you'll definately want to look at the TG2 Documentation pages at this link... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?board=2.0
It's the best place to start if you're just beginning with the program.

dandelO.

Will

surface shaders come with a power fractal and are thus better. :P

By the way, are there any plans to release a pocket-sized power fractal shader? I really want one but they aren't available in the shops in Scotland at this point. :(
Think of the possibilities, Planetside...

:D ;) :D

I think its called a inksplot.

Well, surface layers are the conduit between power fractals and images, thus, they are equal in their respective endeavours!

The PFS that comes free with every surface layer is very nice, it's like the toy in the cereal box when I was a child, only, for TG users... who aren't interested in cereal... and who aren't a child!

;D

Edit:

QuoteI think its called a inksplot.
I was hoping for something along the lines of the PFSPod - Micro.

ah yes I should mention though that I am notorious for getting topics... well frankly, off-topic. So you can just ignore me.

First, welcome. Second, if you want to understand colors and surfacing you MUST read Volker's tutorial (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2287.0). This should jump start your understanding of TG 2 and change your life forever.  ;D You might also want to take a look at my tutorial about surfacing planets too though the techniques used by volker can be applied to planets with some scale changes(http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2747.msg27929#msg27929).

Yes, what he (up there) said.
