Another break from my red river project.  I wanted to get some really nice colours happening with this one so I used a couple of Marc Gebhart's trees (thanks!) in the background and Walli's Lilac in the foreground.  You can't see much of the trees details, but the orange and red colours are beautiful.  The depth of field was added in post.

Rendered at 1600 x 1200
Detail: 0.9
AA: 6
GI: 1/4

Took just over 2.5 hours. With the depth of field pass taking another half an hour or so.

Beautiful! The background is a nice idea, it works well with the DoF. The DoF effect itself is not quite perfect, some of the leaf edges are slightly funky. Also the specular on some of the green leaves is too even. But these are minor issues. Definitely colorful and definitely nice. :)

Beautiful :)
I noticed the spec too, maybe a slight displacement map? :)

You are very right about the edges.  I can't seem to get the mask to line up as it should. It could be because I used the catmull-rom filter.  I've got it rerendering with a different filter to see if that will fix it.  Will also check out the specular and see if I can rough it up a bit.

A striking example of what can be done with this outstanding program. Ryan, this gives many of us some great ideas! Beautiful work.

Walli

thats nice kitsch ;-) Vibrant colors! Probably some more bump in the leaves or reduced specular would help when getting that close.
Just so, that the speculars brake up a bit.

Striking - colour from the background trees is indeed a clever idea.

Amazing! It looks so real!

ThinkPink

unbelievable ......

The only thing I have are the leafs ... for me, as an ex-gardener,  ;) they seemed to be a little small-sized. At least in Germany, this kind of lilac has greater leafs ...  ;D

Nice weekend

Thanks guys.  I believe I have the edge issues worked out, still trying a few different options for the leaf speculars.  Should have an update later today.

Does this use the new build? Somehow the image seems more vibrant than a T2 render.

Forget Tuesday; It's just Monday spelled with a T

Yes this was rendered using the Alpha build, but vibrancy is not something that changes between versions, it is all about what colours you choose combined with the lighting etc.  Other than the crispness of the lilac, there is nothing here that is different from the released build.
