Hi

My new computer arrived today and the first thing i did was render a scene in Terragen ;D

I installed Everest ultimate edition to see what temperature the cpu had and it was high! all 4 cores was at about 70°C. Is that normal or is something wrong?

Its a intel i7 920.

Hmm that's pretty normal, the i7 920 should be able to handle it. Think of getting some improved cooling, maybe even water cooling. My i7 920 is running at 40 at rest and up to 80 on load but never more.

ps don't forget to force terragen to use all cores (including the HT opnes) by setting your minimum threads to 8.

congrats for having an i7 920 - that's a great CPU and you should have noticed an incredible speed-up in Terragen 2 renders, not matter which other CPU you had before ;)

With 8 threads you'll see it flying :)

Cheers,
Frank

Aha ok good:)

I will probably buy water cooling but the fact that water is going to run through my system frighten me alot, hahahaha. And thx for the rendering tips!

Hehe thanks!

And yes, the rendering is WAAAAAAAAY much faster now when i entered 8 on "minimum threads":D

So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Water cooling seems a bit excessive, though 70C *is* hot. Are you using the stock cooling fan? There are a lot of great 3rd party fans out there that should keep temperatures very reasonable and make water cooling unnecessary, for example:

I liked the picture someone posted. It showed a table fan pointing down at an open case computer. The fan had malfunctioned. It is not enough cooling, I do not suggest it as a solution.

It was me. I don't suggest it too. Because the card is maybe fried . But it was-is a problematic card from the beginning . I did send it ones more for repair the 3'rd time :)

If you want air cooling I suggest getting this baby: http://www.silentpcreview.com/prolima-megahelams I bought it to my i7 920 and overclocked to 3.6ghz. It's 60-65 degrees under load when i render with 8 threads which is not too bad. Also little less than 40 degrees in idle.. I got 1x 120mm fan on it with static 800 rpm so not much noise either..You can put 2 if you feel like it.

That one looks nice. My motherboard is a Asus rampage gene and you can very easy clock the processor to a "i7 940 2.93ghz". Do you think the orginal cooler can handle that?

If this one is good as water cooling, im definitely buying one.

I just bought myself a "Intel Xeon W3565" and I also have water cooling, but the temperature
hits just above 80C when I start rendering. I've seen it at 84C. Is this really bad? What do you guys recommend?

This is the CPU heatsink/fan I am going to buy. You can find it at Amazon.com for about $60.00.  It uses copper, which conducts heat very well.

Zalman CNPS9900LED Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler

I am using a stock Intel CPU fan. I am running about 60 degrees C. That's about 140 degrees F. I am hoping to get below 48 degrees C.

And this with water cooling...Are you sure there is no problem anywhere?
Do you overclock , Sjefen? If yes this could be normal .
In the way that you use the cpu's not in the standard way ;not that "that" temperature is normal.
Not sure about the Xeon but 80 and over looks a little too much to me.

But you should find the İntel specs .
