Hello, All.

I'm going out on a bit of a limb here in starting this showcase thread.  I'm an amateur when it comes to using Terragen 2 but then, we all have to start somewhere, don't we?  I don't profess to be anywhere as good as some of the artists posting here but I do wish to share my humble works.

I've been using Terragen Classic for a number of years now and have just started using Terragen 2.  I am very impressed with the feature set of the application and know I'll be quite some time learning all of the features and functions of this great applilcation.  My thanks to Planetside and the developers of Terragen for providing all of us -- amateurs and professionals -- an excellent application to use to express our creative interests and talents.

I do have a question.  Is it okay to post renders from Terragen Classic or should this forum only be for Terragen 2 renders?

The attachment on this post is the result of my working through the "Create Your First Scene" tutorial.  I don't know the author of the tutorial (I searched but couldn't seem to find a name?) but want to offer my thanks for an excellent introduction to the basic Terragen 2 toolset.

I call this render simply "Vandy's First TG2 Render - PP (28APR10".  It was post processed in Photoshop only to correct the color balance.

Thank you all, inadvance, for visiting Vandy's Terragen Showcase and I look forward to your comments, constructive criticisms, suggestions, etc.

Hello, All.

This second post features my result to John's excellent "Ben McDuff" tutorial.  John, I can't begin to tell you how much fun I had doing this tutorial and thank you very much for your excellent explanations and examples.  This result is entitled" Ben McDuff Render - pp (29APR10).  Again, post processing was done to correct the color balance.

Enjoy.

Hello, All.

The final post for today is a render I just completed which is a blending of the examples and concepts presented in the two tutorials listed in my first two posts, above.  I'm rather please with the way it came out, although; I can already see where I'll be able to improve my techniques in future renders.  I call this result "High Alpine Valley in Summer - Post Glacial Period - PP (07MAY10).  Again, post processing was done to correct color balance as well as to "smooth out" a couple of rough spots I couldn't seem to correct in Terragen 2.

Enjoy.

Hi Vandy, welcome to the Forum.

It's fine to post TG Classic images, as far as I know.

One point you might want to look at - notice how sharp the snow layer cutoff is. If you go into the Altitude constraints in the Surface Layer, you'll notice that there's something called "Fuzzy zone" - you may want to play with the settings on that.

Keep going!

Vandy

Hi, Domdib.

I appreciate your comments as well as your advice on using the "fuzzy zone" control.  I most certainly will keep that in mind the next time I "play" in the snow.

Continuing on with my renders, the next few posts will be some of my better renderings using Terragen Classic.  This first one I call "Early Morning on the Rim" and, as you can tell, the POV is standing at the edge of the crater.  This was rendered in April, 2002.

Enjoy.

Hi, All.

This render was done in April, 2002 and uses a technique I read about (I don't remember where, unfortunately) where you can create trees by using noise.  I call this render "A Lazy Afternoon on the Lake".

Enjoy.

Nice starts Vandy.

My only comment would be to work on your contrast for the surface colors. They seem a bit bright.

I had the same issue when I started. My first few looked like Black Light Posters.
