As I am still somewhat of a novice, i would be interested to hear from people, if they are interested and can show me some samples of work, to work with me on creating the image of the island of barbados.

We would need to create a realistic version of the island, though the actual time anyone will be looking at the image will be quite short as it will form part of the introduction to an animation

Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks

I think that your best bet is to use a DEM of the island and then texture it accordingly.  Is there anything in particular that you need help with, such as finding the DEM or making object populations?

thanks, I went to www.mapmart.com and found a DEM but not proficient enough to know how to convert it using the new version of terragen

Hay there,
Not sure what Terragen 2 offers on imports really other then .ter, but if you use L3DT a huge terrain generator at http://bundysoft.com/L3DT/  Aarons software is pretty darn COOL, and it is easy to get that file into L3DT, then export it out as a .ter file for both Terragens.  L3DT and Terragen work hand in hand easily, and both are awesome software programs.
Hope that helps some?

Depending on the format of the DEM you may be able to use the 3DEM, a free terrain conversion application that supports export of .ter format. http://www.visualizationsoftware.com/3dem.html

Open your DEM in 3dem.  In one of the the overhead dropdown menus you can Select Smaller Area:  Draw a rectangle over your area of interest.  Press enter.  Under File, Save As Terragen Terrain.

The registered version ($35 three years ago) lets you stitch adjoining
DEM's together and create terrains as big as your ram will let you.
You can them export them to .ter format. I think the free version
limits export size I think (it's been a while). It is a great program none the less.

3DEM was made entirely free a few years later. It still has the capability to stich DEM's up to your RAM limit, but it only exports to a max of 4097 .ter, which was the old maximum of TG 0.9. The app hasn't been updated for quite some time which is why it doesn't support the larger sizes now available in TG2.

Makes sense it has been a long time since I bought my copy.

Sadly no but given it's no longer a commercial product and the original author doesn't seem to have time to update it anymore he may consider releasing it if you ask nicely. ;D
