Problems with sun in outer space

Hi everyone.

I have a problem with the sun in outer space. All it is is a white circle, no glow, no anything except light. I've seen TG2 pictures where the sun is behind the planet and there are sort of "rings" around the sun. Any suggestions? Are the rings and sun post-work in these pictures?

If needed, here's an example:

Thanks,
Jahnu

Aw shucks so if you want that sort of thing you need to do it in Photoshop or something?

As the camera is well outside the atmosphere, which controls the sun's glow effects(when you're inside one), there's no glow.

You could stick a planet node in front of the desired sun in a space render, give it some luminosity and make it's atmosphere very, very thin. Use the haze, blue/red sky to choose colours and the height controls will let you expand or reduce the glow's range.

Here's a very quick one, you could be far more creative than this, though.

I think I see some ideas for rainbows on Earth, possibly, actually, I'm off to tinker... :D

:D The sun's strength in your picture is pretty small!

What do you want him to do?

So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

The sun strenght was actually '5' in that setup. The weak looking light is the planet's surface luminosity. You could crank this as high as you liked, too.

The sun is only supplying atmosphere glow, you can't actually see it behind the planet.

I think I've tried a similar concept. The planet I was using was molten and didn't need an Earth-like atmosphere. So I scaled the bluesky altitude up almost to infinity and turned the density way down, producing the desired glow effect. I think a similar technique could be used here. ;)
They just issued a tornado warning and said to stay away from windows. Does that mean I can't use my computer?

And here it is. It uses a very thin, but immensely deep cloud layer. Almost like a very thin haze surrounding the planet up to 1.5e+008 meters. It doesn't just put a glow around the default sun, but also around any other suns/light sources you have. It actually reminds me of my recent experiments with TG1. Enjoy!
EDIT: Forgot to tell you: Stick the "Sun glow" node at the top of your atmo stack. ;)
