Weird black stuff on my render

Hi, I'm a new member and also a new Terragen 2 user. I played with Terragen WAYYY back when it was a very simple program, but man, Terragen 2 is so different! I usually do interior renderings, and there's not much rocks and clouds in rooms :D so I'm having some troubles with this program.

One problem that I have is in regards to this render. I'm not sure what I did to the fake stone shader there, but if you look closely at the ice-looking stone closest to you, there is this black stuff at the bottom. Is this a common problem? Am I doing something uber noob here?

Thanks for the help in advance.

That is whre the two different shaders are meeting. On the non-blue/ice surface layers effects tab, turn on Displacement intersection. See how the area looks in a crop render. If it's looking good great. Other wise try changing the values. You may need to adjust the smoothing also.
The ice looks very good by the way.

I'm not sure if displacement intersection would work, in fact, I think it's not a good idea at all.
The fake stones shader is a fancy displacement function and at the point where the surface is being protruded to create a stone the displacement is pretty extreme. My suggestion is that you would need to increase the displacement tolerance in the planet node.

That does sound like better advise. I can't recall ever having this occur to me in a scene. But I tend to use overlapping surface layers; the slope settings 'build' onto each other. Maybe that is why I don't get this.

Thanks guys. I shall try it when I'm done with another render.
