Hello,

Will the copy of TG2 that I have now (current version) work on OSX- mountain lion, coming this summer?

Does anyone know how well the new mac pros run TG2? 12-Core 2.40-3.06 GHz

What about the new windows OSs on their way?

Getting close to upgrade time. and would like some incite.

I love mac because of the os and the fact that I never have to replace parts. I still have an old g4 that I have never had a problem with, just old and slow now.

But I cant deny that windows systems are cheaper and that there is more software available to run on them.

Anyway, mostly I just want to know if TG2 will run on the new OS.

Thank you.

TG2 will remain compatible with newer OS versions including OS X Mountain Lion and Windows 8. We will not be making TG2 a "Metro" app any time soon though. ;)

Thanks Oshyan.
I was a little worried because lion was problematic for users and developers, as I understand it. So I skipped the upgrade, but the new os should be good, or so it looks.

Not sure what metro app is? But I prefer that TG2 not become a fashion slut too! ;D

You can avoid all the upgrade problems by upgrading 6-9 months after a new OS X version is released giving the software developers time to update software if required. This is what I did with Lion, I upgraded in March with no major issues.

Regarding performance, for rendering Terragen's performance is highly likely to be directly related to a computer's CINEBENCH 11.5 multi-core CPU score.

Which is what, on the new macs?

If you download CINEBENCH 11.5 from here http://www.maxon.net/?id=1258 you can benchmark your current system. You need to do this otherwise the scores don't mean very much!

The Mac Pro's 2012 are almost identical to the 2010 Mac Pros. Same GPUs slightly different CPU configurations in some models.
My opinion is that they are a huge disappointment. You have to pay 2012 prices for 2009 / 2010 technology, not a compelling proposition.

4-Core model will be no better than a BTO Quad-Core i7 iMac, but a lot more expensive and with no screen.
6-Core model will scale with the number of cores to give a CINEBENCH CPU score of around 9.
12-Core models should give scores between 12 and 17.

On the other hand the MacBook Pros have bang upto date technology in a design that no Windows Laptop maker seems able to match and at very competitive pricing compared to the windows world for the same spec.
In particular, the new MacBook Pros with Retina display looks very interesting.
Apple are selling off a number of the 2011 17-Inch models in the Refurb section of there store.
These will have CINEBENCH 11.5 scores of around 5.35 - 5.5 and would appear to offer good value for money.
They also get good prices second hand should you need to upgrade at some stage.

iMacs and Mac Minis will probably be updated when Apple release Mountain Lion sometime in July.

Thanks for the link and info, penboack.
I'm going to do this this weekend yet. I think doing it will answer a lot of questions.
