I tried some more ways to make a ringworld. Found 2. The other one is rendering....

This looks promising ...very nice.

SteveR

Nice, how did you create and apply the terrain shape?

Kadri

Nice start Ulco.
Is it a pit or negative displacement of a Planet or anything else at all?

TheBadger

Good start! Interesting Science fiction idea.
Curious if Man could ever really build something so complex and massive... Maybe in 10000 years... If we last that long.
It has been eaten.

Always a good concept... would like to know how the shape is created too

I'll give you some hints: it's all within one planet with a negative radius, using a simple shape to produce a mask for the 'gully' displacement, and some light sources within that planet, because outside suns won't get through. Now, you can start experimenting..... and within no time, you've got it.
And the yellow explosion is a fragmented rock + a small planet's clouds. The other 'explosion' is light passing through a cloud layer from a lightsource.

Just read the article, mash was pointing to here:

Confess, Ulco! You created the ringworld for Elysium!

Dune

Yeah, and I just post some lousy remains on this forum. Caught  >:(

ps. but I saw that post and it got me thinking.....

cyphyr

Good progress :) I'll be watching this to see your technique.

I "think" this is why I had to  abandon this approach with my "Ringworld" images.

Looking forward to more :)

You could also take the unused sides off using a default shader's opacity tab. That's 'the other method' I was referring to, but the render is not good enough to post. Then you can use normal suns. I have some more ideas, but I'm doing too much at the same time, so it might take a while.
