After a hard drive crash and a stolen thumbdrive, I gave up my Terragen hobby, and recently decided to start up with Terragen 2 again. But I'm having the same problems as I used to have with it. I don't know what ANYTHING does, none of it is labeled or tooltipped like in 0.9x.
I'm sure it's probably been asked before, and is a common issue, but I'm sure a lot of people could use little descriptive tooltips.

Edit: Also, I hope this is in the right place.

I think this feature will be included in beta/final release. Dont forget this is just some sort of alpha-

I hope so, I think I remember reading a list of features that'll be in once it gets to beta, I just couldn't rememer if tooltips/etc was on the list.

The thing I'm having the most difficulty with right now, after going through nearly every guide in the learning centre, is heightfields and the things that modify them. Seeing as this is the biggest difference from 0.9xx, I figured there'd be a lot more documentation on it, but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone know a good heightfield guide, or anything that may help.

sad to say no :(
im actually working with heightfields made by bigben. He actually somehow converts some dem files into heightfields etc... look in teh file section of forums and ask him

Specific tooltips will be one of the later things added because specific controls and settings may change until late in development, so spending time on tooltips at this point would often be wasted effort.

If you have any specific questions regarding heightfields or any other function please do ask. Although full documentation is not yet available (partly because it is difficult to fully document an in-development product), we are glad to offer help on using any part of the application in its current state.

Ekflagristoj

Thanks Oshyan, your response really eased my apprehension.

My problem is similar to the problem the German guy and his girlfriend had, the way things are named is a bit confusing, and the things I learned in Terragen 0.9xx didn't translate over to the new heightfields.

I'm mostly confused about the four values in the heightfield generate node near the "size in metres" label, since it doesn't say what the four values are for. And whenever I just whing it, my terrain is either really squat, or overly steep and tall - and I don't know which terrain shader to use to correct it.

Oshyan

The 4 values you refer to are:

On the top, the size of the heightfield in pixels in the X and Z directions (this determines the "detail" of the heightfield, not its "area")

On the bottom, the size of the heightfield *in meters* in the X and Z directions (this determins the area of the terrain you are generating - i.e. how much space it will cover in your scene)

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I also recommend reading the User Guide and tutorials that have been posted by other users in our documentation section here:
