Definitely for more drama, the wide angle lens looks cool. What I like about the first image is that it actually has lens distortion that you would expect from a real camera. Now 100 degrees is roughly equivalent to an 18mm lens I believe on a full frame camera. Try using a 35mm focal length which will be about 63.2 degrees wide. Now move the camera back a little bit to compose the same composition. Try a render and see if you like it.
In my opinion wide angle and lesser wide angle shots have their own unique applications. For vehicles in general, I personally don't prefer extreme wide angles since they distort the shape of the vehicle. But lets say that the vehicle is just a mere addition to a landscape scene and in that case a wide angle look only adds to the story and drama.
I am posting two example photographs to illustrate this.

This image was shot at 20mm on a full frame camera, thats an angle equivalent of 94.48 degrees. Note the distortion but I thought of going with it anyways because the composition is about the milky way and the car, I want both of them in the shot and thats what I am trying show the viewer. So the car is just an addition to the landscape here.

Now this image is more focused on the car and less on the background but I still wanted to convey an urban feel, so some buildings in the background would be nice. The lens used here was a 35mm lens, 63.2 degrees wide.
Hope that helps.
