Terragen can handle very very big object and image files very easily.
That is the part i don't understand.
I am having a render going on on a laptop as i am trying these things without a problem.
This object isn't even a file i could say big at all for me.

Regarding the surfaces of the obj file and the 3ds file doesn't look ready to use.
For a one part UV surfaced object i haven't seen an appropriate image in the RAR.
There are only texture parts you could use in another software.
I think the other files are better for this but i can not test them.
Maybe in that aspect you get what you paid for with this file formats.
Others might be more a help with the different file formats probably.

Isn't PNG a default texture format for past 30 years? Are they further converted in the material?  I'm glad it works for you, but it does not for me. I do not get the parts you get using your directions and exporting. :\ Are you sure you aren't missing something?

That is the problem. You don't know what i am talking about at all.
Learn a little more about 3D modeling and texturing (i mean it ) and then look ones again in this thread.
And i am writing this with a smile on my face by the way :)

In this state it would be hard to use the model.Regarding your answer and question after i posted above.

A better export from another file format or a real UV texture file would be needed.
As i said others might be more a help in that aspect.

Or you could texture it for yourself in another 3D software etc.

I do texturing in general (gaming, modding, for people using TG and why I got into it), that's no problem. I intended to change all the textures as is. I just need those parts or there is no point in trying. A solid colored boat or two-toned boat is hardly appealing xD

Then if you can load the other files in another software you have. In that way it could be very easy.

I followed your directions, I don't get those extra parts.

DAZ Crashes, and TG is no help until the file is fixed.

How many programs do I need. xD

I tried it with Lightwave and it crashes it too. I think the file is problematic. But Poseray can open it as i said.

Well can you send your exported obj? I can't get the parts to to export for some reason. I event tried the other option below the Groups -> Material option for the hell of it.

It must be broken for all the different outcomes it gets. Which is sad, so if you do know where any other sailships are located at on the web, that'd be awesome. Been wanting to work with waves and wakes and water but am incredibly OCD about look... and I don't like viking ships and weird Warcraft II style "Medieval" ships.

Kadri

Of course i can but i am not sure if it would be a real help.
If the UV map isn't exported in a good way you still might get problem.
But with those two file formats it looks already like you have to texture it for yourself.
I would try to open it in C4D or asked a friend who uses it.
If it opens without a problem there it could be much easier to do.
But if you still want it i can send it.

I have seen only 4 wood textures. There aren't any others aren't they?
If there was a UV texture kinda like this one it would be maybe ready to go.

I think here are some. But i am not sure if they are free-legal or not.

I'm only working in a personal aspect so that's not a issue. Just learning.

Alright guys, calm down...

WASasquatch, why don't you just send that model over to me? Maybe I can texture it in my DAZ Studio. My mail should be visible on the forum. As far as the other ship models are concerned, the only freebies I have are small sailboats but I can see you're after tall ships, so... :D

@ Kadri - I think you are right that TG can handle huge objects that you can scale down later on but I'm confused... I have never seen an object that has planetary size like this boat. :o Did you actually load this boat into your TG? I'm just wondering, because I'm definitely interested if it's not causing any problems.

The images here in page 1 from my posts are from Terragen with this object loaded.
The obj file is problematic but Poseray kinda fixes it as i wrote before.
Scale problems are common between 3D apps and aren't so important.
At least the easiest thing you can fix mostly.
