Random dots:
Divide x z space in 500*500 squares
Delete some squares by a perlin noise.
Calculate offset to centers by some modulus functions.
This the random dots.
Create the pyramids by subtracting a get function with the random dots.

Neat! Erode them a bit and they could look like natural mounds.
