Hi guys,

I though some of you might be interested to get a 3D sample dataset of one of our 3D city model to do some magic with Terragen.

I did that a while back all in Terragen:

This is nice. I sent request form for personal usage.

mmmh somebody manage to make it work with TG, guys ? :(
Cos, so far, I can't even have it rendered in preview window.
Any solution ?

It is pretty easy, pick the six tiles you want (LOD). Run them thru Poseray, and load them into TG. They will automatically tile to the correct position.

By the way guys... Do you know any trick and/or software that is capable of creating procedural cities / villages? That would be cool, huh?

Not too hard for a distant city; use the square noise setup, and localize that.

N-drju

Not really. I am thinking about a closer perspective. Besides, there is a problem with texturing if you do that I think...

You might as well populate - instance editing tool available in TG3 is an excellent solution here. :) Still much work though...

There's City Engine, but it's *not* very affordable: http://www.esri.com/software/cityengine

City Engine is very good.
The new owners of the software, Esri ... not so good.
I bought a copy 5 years ago.
Then Procedural (the makers of City Engine) was sold to Esri.
Then Esri changed its licensing servers so my license no longer worked.
Esri has since refused to upgrade my licience saying I have to buy a new version.

Still very angry about that.

If the purchase was under specific 'specifics', I think they SHOULD have it still work, or they're in the wrong. SUE THEM!

N-drju

Double ouch...

It's not very moral what they do... or so I think.

I can't be bothered, I just send them annoyed emails every now and then ...

An old Lscript pak for Lightwave is awailable now for free. It does have a City generator .
Don't expect too much but it could be used for many things.

It does have a Tree generator too.

There is a City generator for Blender too around.

HI all,

to get this 3D model into Terragen, the first step I do is to generate normals. For that I use Meshlab (free).
I then load the 6 tiles and choose Xfrog compatibility (it just get the orientation right). After importing the OBJ, I chance the specular reflection to 0 for each materials.
That's it.
