Has anyone played with ANT Landscapes in Blender? Is it worth creating heightmaps with? I saw this video and thought it was pretty interesting for the time spent.

Plugin: ANT Landscape

ANT plugin is very easy to use. I think you have to export as object rather than heightmap though. That video looks like many refinements are available since I used that plugin, but I do have the latest Blender,
If you are familiar with texture paint and vertex groups like to paint areas for different local material, it should be a snap for you.
This is a real old object one with just a material PF clip applied. This object only has 1 material shader, as I deleted all the Blender internal cycles textures so you could see an example.

Huh. That's not half bad, and you can add to it with a displaceable object. Think I may give it a try. People on YouTube often make things look so easy. Lol

Rendered in Blender ANT landscape
You can design lots of terrain, obj size is 40,000KB subdivided mesh
I do not know how that would compare to a TG terrain.
If there is another way, like EXR file, I do not know how to do that.
Blender renders EXR for animated plane, not sure if stationary object is doable.
