Summit View

You see a summit view, plain and simple; kind of barren with lack of vegetation. Just a few juvenile pines and mountain grass. This is a place to sit and contemplate about how the next image will be composed.

A procedural terrain (foreground) combined with a DEM terrain (far distant). The Cumulus Humilis clouds generated using FrankB's cloud pack and stone bed files; the pinus nigra (black pine) file by lighting was also used here.

Again, I experienced not being able to create populations of vegetation on the foreground (only on distant terrain) here using the painter shader. I had to resort to using individual objects.

Enjoy...

I like the rocky terrain and your placement of vegetation.  The clouds would like better with a little less density, I think.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Nice pleasing scene.
Bob, if it's the foreground procedural terrain that won't accept a pop why don't you post a tgd of one of these scenes (minus any DEM terrains and plants), to see if anyone can figure out why pops wont sit. Must be very frustrating for you.

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

V. pleasant. Those clouds of Frank's are really useful.

I love the clouds, fit the scene perfectly.

Hi

The Clouds are wonderful!

Clouds seem a bit too dark colored to me, but I'm impressed with how natural the vegetation looks. Colors of imported objects often seem overly bright and saturated, but can look too "dead" and dull if saturation is reduced. This seems like a very good, realistic balance.

I too would be interested in seeing the source files for a scene where populations won't work. So far I don't think you've described even the specifics of the issue beyond saying they simply don't work, so we don't know whether you have any error messages, or whether the objects show up but are floating, or some other issue. More details would definitely help us resolve the problem.

Hi Bob, looks like a start for a very nice scene, although you say you are "sitting there, thinking about the next image" ;)

The cumulus humulis you have used are tweaked for higher exposures (and sun elevation) than what you seem to use in this render.
I think it would be good to increase the exposure here, disable the "darker unresolved scattering", and maybe even decrease the cloud density some. It will be some fiddling arond with the parameters though to get it right.

Cheers,
Frank

Hi Oshyan,

Thanks for getting back regarding this image problem. I will e-mail the .tgd on this later this evening. As mentioned, the image I made before this one also had the same problem. I'll e-mail both .tgd files to you; and, if you need the additional files (bushes and .etc.) let me know and I'll zip them up and get them to you.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Frank,

Thank you for these tips. I'll try what you've suggested. Each new image, especially when trying  different files created by others is a new adventure; and, a lot of fun. Your information has been helpful in learning these techniques.

Thanks again,

Bob

Thanks Bob. If you can include more details about the specific problems that would be helpful. Send the files to support AT planetside.co.uk
