Working with image based displacements

I've been taking a break from rendering for a while, but wanted to share some of the progress I've made with image based displacements.  I do plan on developing this further.  I think the results are very nice if done correctly, and can supplement areas where more of an organic/natural look is required.  Additionally, this method should animate nicely.

Those rocks are astounding ... I'm very curious as to how you did this, they have to be the most realistic rocks I've seen done to date. Great work.

I've tried to get this look, but considering that i am a MASSIVE newbie with no knowledge of how to manipulate the node network, i always get funny lookin' results.
