sweet image. excellent stuff.

Btw. I'm not sure about this (I don't even have TG open to check) but you might be able to blend the redirect with a distribution shader v4, in order to set it to only redirect the vertical slopes, and not the gentle ones. Whether this is desirable or not for your scene is down to you (it looks great as is)

nvseal

Actually, the redirect shader is restricted to the slopes by a distribution shader (which is why the smoother parts of the terrain under the trees remain unchanged).

Hey guys, here's what I came up with. 20 hour render at .45 detail and .35 anti-aliasing. Original render size 2667x2000px.

Nice job!  I like the strata on the canyon walls.

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

Hummm, 2 things here.  I could have sworn I uploaded a file for the compitition and even saw it in posts, but now I can't find it????? wiered.  Also I could have sworn that in the challenge we were not supposed to mess with the sky in any way and I am wondering at all the clouds I see in the skies of the entries? Does that mean we can use skies now? if so, maybe I have time to re-render with some skies even though it took me 27 hours to render the last one???

@Death Twister
QuoteNo restrictions on sky, clouds, water, additional lights/suns, objects, additional terrains, foliage, surfaces, colors, etc.   It can be rendered at any size, just keep that
4:3 ratio.  Obviously, higher res renders will likely look better.

Also,

I'm sure if you calibrate the render detail and anti-aliasing you can bring it down substantially. (I chose higher render sizes over actual detail, which paid of in a streamlined render time..)

still, it looks amazing with that sun position...

maybe as a seperate image?

what does it look like with the sun in the original position?

disciplus59

the same with the original sun position.

DeathTwister

Hay all,

Lighting and camera did not change, but I sure had my way with the rest of this scene /smiles......I think it is so awesome to be able to see how each of us has changed the basic terrain file and think this idea is very awesome and it gives me idea's for some Comp's I play in in other websites.

FYI: Textures were taken from http://texturesource.org if anyone needs textures, that's the place to get them.
OK here is my Entry:
