The Undiscovered Country - Oasis

Had to give cyphyr's world another go (The Undiscovered Country.TGD) ...I wanted a more lush, almost jungle feel but the hyper distorted terrain proved too hard to place objects...thus this...it does highlight the hanging ivy (www.terragen.org).  Would like to see others use this...I love lush jungle scenes and hope to do one soon....yeah...I'm throwing down the glove. How about a dense jungle scene....trees, water, hanging vines, plants galore...and maybe a lost civilization?.....I'm going to work on it

A grand creation by you Mark. My only thoughts are one word; more softness. I like the variation in the terrain - both its colors and strata.

Nice pov and great placement of objects - you could use this pov for your jungle scene quite easily - reduce your wave scale and add plants with a much smaller scale and presto!

Yeh, this is looking good. I like the placement of your trees and other foliage. You can get sharp-edged strata like this in nature, so Cypher's strata ain't too sharp for me. I might be wrong but I'm guessing you didn't use image mapping on the strata / cliff faces, and that their colouring is from the original power fractals in Cypher's tgd. I agree with Bob that smoother water would be better.

i don't know if you can get this kind of sharp edge strata in nature (if you say so, i believe you) but they look very strange to me here.
maybe it is just a matter of taste.

It's probably because the coordinates are stretched because of the displacements, resulting in an unexpected way of coloring.
I think the strata look quite believable, though maybe indeed a tad bit too strong/sharp.
The suggestion about the water is a good one.

I have seen sharp strata like this in quarries or where a ledge has fallen off the cliff face.

Nice too see this one still inspiring and going off in new directions.
You can get strata that "crisp", as njeneb says in quarries and where the rock face has fallen away. It might work better if we could figure a way of doing highly angular rock and stones. A few piles of broken rock about the place, looking as if they fell from the cliff face might work.
To get the vegitation to sit better, use a small value in the Compute terrain node and plug the last shader in the shaders group into the "sit on terrain" input of  your objects.

If the sharp strata from cyphyr was turned at a steeper angle, it reminded me of the photograph with the smaller terrain features going along the base terrain that are angled to be i'd say 80 degrees. It's along there side you can see the layers. It is kind of flaky or chiseled looking in some parts.
