I'm happy the way the strata worked out here. A fractal terrain includes twist and shear; 'dandelO's' 10M cracks file; and, FrankB's suggested method of attaining strata irregularity. The darker upper surface layer blends nicely with the base color; and,  includes an array of four sizes of fake stones which are the same color as the upper surface layer.
Also included are:

•   dandelO's Cumulus Fractus clouds.

•   Walli's Big Dense Pine.

•   Walli's Pine.

•   lightning's bushes.

The image was adjusted for brightness /contrast in PS.

Yeah! Love it!
Very good work Bob!
The image suffers a little bit from compression it seems, is there a possibility you can upload it elsewhere so we can see it uncompressed?

Cheers,
Martin

wow, love this too Bob, the surfaces and structures are spot on!

Nice image , Choronr .

I would only change the big Tree position and the faraway look (a little more displacements and texture?) and maybe the clouds.

But the foreground is first class ,  Choronr :)

Hi Martin,

Glad you liked the image. Will gladly upload it elsewhere. You name it, I'll upload it there. I have uploaded it on Renderosity, Terranuts and Ashundar.

I agree the compression hurts the image. What's funny is the actual file size is well below the max of 512kb. I think if you posted a bit lower resolution (say 1280x1024 which a lot more people will be able to view in full) and used max 512kb file size, the image compression would be no problem.

Thanks Oshyan. I will try that on my next (similar) image. Although I still have much to learn, TG2 has me less scratching my head ...and, is a pleasure to work with.

Fantastic foreground displacements. I tend to agree with Kadri re the background - somehow needs more texture, to blend better with the foreground. But great work!
