Thanks for the feedback folks. We'll do what we can to improve various things like colors (agree that it needs more contrast). But please keep in mind that the forum's functionality and things like the confirmation messages, image posting functions, etc. are not necessarily customizable (at least not without hiring a PHP coder). We'll work within the limitations of the system we have and do our best to accommodate needs of the users.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the improved
WYSIWYG editor (I think it's rather nice!), the
@Dune "mentions" (sorry Ulco, just chose you as an example
), and hopefully at least a few of you benefit from the improved mobile experience.
I also want to note that an upgrade was inevitable due to updates and security improvements (e.g. Windows 7 stops being supported, Microsoft makes you move to Win 10 for security updates, same thing here). But a big part of the choice to do it sooner is a hope to actually increase traffic here, which some of you have expressed concern about in the past. There are two reasons why we felt this might help.
First, Google searches are responsible for a lot of
new incoming traffic to any website. Google prioritizes the mobile experience in search ranking now (i.e. mobile-friendly sites actually rank higher!), so improving our mobile page functionality should actually improve the forum's ranking and get new people here.
Second, many people now participate in discussions and social media on mobile devices. I am not one of those people and it sounds like many of the others who have so far responded are also not. But perhaps those sorts of people have been less inclined to come here due to the past poor mobile experience, and hopefully the improved mobile view will encourage those folks to stick around more...
Here's to the future of the forums!
