Put your Windows 7 System DVD into the DVD/CD. Boot from this. Then click on Repair.

Are you sure the bootup sequence is in the right order?

Hit DEL key when you restart your PC to get into your BIOS settings and see if you can find your bootup sequence and make sure your DVD-ROM is first in the sequence.
If your HDD is first and DVD 2nd or later then it will never boot from DVD.

Zairyn Arsyn

thanks, ok, i will try that when i get home :)

Can you boot into DOS? If you can, run a disk check. You may have a corrupted HD sector.

honestly, im not really sure...usually it just boots from the HD
does that work in command prompt?
i could access command prompt through the startup repair advanced options or whatever

i will also be contacting avadirect customer support

I think it's Function Key 12 for the boot options. You should be able to select 'Boot to Command Prompt'. Then type Diskck (I think, I have not used it in years). The computer should begin checking you HD for errors. It will try to repair corrupt files and map out the bad sectors.

its chkdsk, or chkdsk C: actually,
i got it to work, but not through the way you told me - its currently checking my hard drive for bad sectors

tomorrow i will contact/call avadirect for additional technical help and advice.

I think what you want to use is: "chkdsk c:/f"  The "/f" is fix problems (or something like that.)  Try "chkdsk /?" first to see the options.  Without the "/f" it will only identify problems.

Maybe safe mode will help?  See http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/safe-mode-windows-7.htm

i used CHKDSK C:/F and CHKDSK C: /V last night it did'nt find any problems, apparently.

i have tried booting into safemode more than once, and it has'nt worked, it just takes me to the windows startup repair menu

I'm stuck. Did you make a recovery disk?

Not sure what your problem is , but my last faulty HDD did the same thing for me .
I couldn't install Windows 7 fully and CHKDSK didn't find any problems too.
You can download the tools from your HDD maker and test it to see if it does have serious HDD errors or not.

Samsung and Seagate have such tools. I don't know the others.

http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/downloads/support_in_es.html
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools

Some tests do take a long time and if you have important data in your HDD please be carefull , zaai999!
I hope it is not so serious but just in case.

One of my friends changed the cables  and everything was alright! Is your PSU OK?

Zairyn Arsyn

henry - no i did'nt/i was'nt able to.
kadri - no problems with my PSU.

i talked with an avadirect customer support guy back on friday and though he could solve my problem, he thought it was probably software related, he suggested i try and i see if i could re-install windows 7 or re-install it on a different drive, and try and retrive the files off the old hard drive.
i think im going to order a new SATA harddrive, i just have one on my machine currently.

its funny this problem happened at this time, shortly before i was planning on getting a new computer... ;)
