This is a friendly reminder that you have just under 2 weeks now to complete your render.  We also only have one entry, so some more would be nice  :P.

Hay Brother MIce,

Yup I am working on mine and wanted to post and say thanks guys for the help so far on getting me in the right direction on planet building, mainly Brother Oshyan /bows thanks man /smiles.

OK, I started making my changes and I went to far hahaha rotfl lolol, and I got a planet that had black holes in it, and while it could be cool as an effect for a planet under attack? it was not what I wanted.  Here is the screen, I got a good laugh, so thought you guys would as well:

So then I sat down and started Tweaking like a mother Fo, and finally got the planet under my control much better as you can see in this shot here:

Heheh no more black hole.  Ok, so if anyone is in need of help as well or needs to take a look at this file I can post it to this point if anyone is in need of it.  Took me a couple of days of tweaking in my spare time so it was not easy, for me anyway hahaha /smiles.

Oh also I had taken the camera down to the 1800m and took a shot to see what it looked like on the service? and I got those darn anamolies again from the way the rendering breaks up the render again  :'( :'( :'(
I hope it gets fixed in the next updated version.  I photoshoped it to post, but hay, in the render window and in the low rendering I did of it, it looked great, just happened when I did a hi rez render at the end. Here is what I mean:

Posting this here since it was all kind of the same project.  OK, I think I can get my stuff ready before the deadlines and rendered, and most of what I need to do now is in Max and XSI as well as move all this around so it is different again /winks, so unless someone needs this base file? I am good to go /smiles and thanks again to all that helped me get on the right track, you are all awesome in my book.

neat, yea the black hole issue happen a lot with large displacment of the terrien (whether it be a crator or a ridge or otherwise) wierd fine render error there too. I'm sticking to a more standard planet render for mine since I don't have much time to fool around with nodes and stuff I'll post it tomorrow most liekly.

A quick question, do we have to have stars in our render or can we leave stars out and leave the planet as the only focus?

Will

I doubt you do its all about creativity so you can do what ever you like.

Stars are optional, especially since they are not built into Terragen 2.  Only major requirement is that the camera is in space  ;)

Hay all,

2 things, first I will upload some star maps on our http://texturesource.org website here tomorrow or next day.  Haven't been there in a couple of weeks but I think it is still working hahahaha lolol.
I have to go to town tomorrow and not sure if I get back in time and how tired I will be to upload files and remember, but I will upload about 10 or so by Thursday if people need some on the fly to help with the comp. /smiles... besides the one that was donated here, I thought I could help as well, I have over 100 or so /winks, I think I can share some.

OK and second is I have a curious question I hope I can get an answer for?
I want to make some glowing /star drive effects on the back of a space ship and there ain't no way we can import in a particle system that would work for that kind of effect.  So my questain is, if I made a mesh (Oval) or something with a transparency on it, and then add a atmosphere or some other effect, maybe get the engine to look like it is running? or should I can that idea?  I am pretty sure a oval sticking out the back end of a ship would look kinda gay ROTFL no offence if it can be seen, but I am not sure on how to go about this. But if I could make it invisable, then add a effect on it, then maybe I could get a kinda stardrive effect, i was hoping anyway, unless there is a better way???

Any ideas?, the clock is ticking and I have one more effect I need to figure out or can t idea until another compotition. And I did think it was a good question to ask since I have seen no one do it yet that I know of.

Make a light source (the 'oval') and position it to your stardrive/warp engine place. Make the light source 'not seen', then tweak the strength up real high. The place will look like it's glowing. Does that help?

It's just an easy workaround, heh ;)

Hay guys,

QuoteMake a light source (the 'oval') and position it to your stardrive/warp engine place. Make the light source 'not seen', then tweak the strength up real high. The place will look like it's glowing. Does that help?

Yup yup pretty much what I figured, but before I spent time on it, I wanted to make sure I was going in the right direction so as not to lose time before the end of the deadline /smiles. And I do think it will be easier for placement to bring the mesh in with the model, then change the texture and make it like you say, then add a shader to it for the glow effect/lightsource.  Haha now all I have to do is actually figure out how to execute it /smiles, there in lies the rub I am sure hahahaha.

Also I wanted to let Ya'll know I uploaded and created a new Folder on http://texturesource.org website of Oshyan's and mine called Starfields, so I also uploaded the starfield I used in the post here if anyone liked it and 9 others at: 2048X2048 at 300 dpi, .jpg at 12. /smiles.  I am going to use one you all don't have, but hay /winks.  Haha no matter what, this comp this month has been a fun learning curve for me, so I win no matter what the way I look at it. /bows to MeltingIce for a great idea.

OK I gues it is all compitition from here good luck all, and may the best render win /smiles...

I've made my entry. You have Buzz to thank for the higher res (among other things  ;)).

rcallicotte

I need to ask everyone about a special exception for my possible entry.  Everything in my render was rendered in TG2 only.  But, I had to do three different renders to be able to include the extra two objects which I've needed to postwork in.  I couldn't render these two objects without errors and this was my only way.  That's one thing.

The other thing is that there is no visible sun and I'd like to make a small flare on the right side to show a sun/star in the distance.  This would make the picture much more interesting, but it is postwork and I haven't done it.  I'm asking whoever is in charge of this to make a ruling.  I don't want to be an exception if no one else is getting any breaks.

1.  Let me know if I can enter my picture (without the flare).
2.  Let me know if I can enter my picture (with the flare).
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

MeltingIce

Well, the general rule I made for all contests was that major postwork, like adding that flare, was not allowed.  So, I'm afraid that for the contest, I can't let you put it in.  I will allow the 3 scenes to be post-worked together though since I know how TG2 just doesn't want to render sometimes.
